About 2 years ago, I tried installing PeopleSoft on my laptop thinking it's gonna be an easy ride but proved to be hell lot difficult and took almost 3 months before I could open the PIA login page. To make matter worse, I didn't take help from anyone who have already done the installation but just relied on Online Forums which though are wonderful resources and ultimately made it work for me but not better than if you have someone who can assist you right on your system. It was moment of cheer when I was finally able to open the PeopleSoft Login page as I faced almost every single issue which is anticipated during such a massive installation.
But I am not gonna just sit here and let you go through the same hurdle as I did, I am going to beat this up for you guys and help you install PeopleSoft right on your desktop just as you would have dreamed.
Note that we are going to install PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 with PeopleTools 8.52 but if you are looking to install higher version then don't worry as the steps are gonna be same.
To begin with, though the PeopleSoft Installation Guide provided by Oracle is a great resource which contains very detailed step by step installation guide but for a beginner its like an ocean where if they dive, they are gonna lost. So, for keeping such audience in mind, I have extracted my own experience of PeopleSoft Installation which I did almost recently which was apparently a success.
We will be doing following steps to make it happen:
Connecting and Starting the Database through sqlplus Command Utility
How to Connect to a Database through SQL Developer in MS Window
As you can see the installation have been splitted into 5 parts so lets do them one by one.
The installation we going to do today is on Microsoft Windows based OS and not the UNIX based. For information on how to install PeopleSoft on UNIX based OS please refer the installation guided I mentioned in the beginning.
However, in MS Windows too, I would recommend that this should be installed in a Windows Server like MS Windows Server 2008 R2 because when I tried installing PeopleSoft on Windows 7 two years ago I faced so many issues hence I then had to move to Windows Server 2008.
Now that we have finalized the platform on which this installation is gonna be done, let me also recommend to create a logical n-tier architecture i.e lets try to install everything on this Windows Server 2008 itself so that this process of installation goes smoothly and we don't face issues down the road.
So far so good, we have made the choice on the platform on which we are going to Install the PeopleSoft but many of us would be Windows 7 users and might not have Windows Server 2008 installed. So first we have to build the platform before we go to the next part and there is a very simple solution for that for those who do not already have Windows Server 2008 installed in their Laptop/Desktops.
Done..! Now you have created created the platform to install PeopleSoft. If you find it difficult creating a Virtual Machine for WS 2008 then refer the Oracle Virtual Box documentation.
